The Road I Took — Greatest Hits (Limited Deluxe Road Edition)

Dixie Deadshot

The Road I Took: Limited Deluxe Road Edition expands Dixie Deadshot's first greatest-hits collection to twenty-seven tracks and more than ninety minutes, compiled from all seven of her albums. The first twenty tracks follow the standard edition's story-order sequence, from the three warrants of "Three Warrants (Intro)" through the place, the people, the Appalachian trap manifesto, the survival math, the family legacy, the breakthrough, and the hard-won quiet, closing the main sequence with "The Road I Took." The deluxe edition then adds seven deeper cuts, one from every album, that fill in the parts of the story the hits only point to: "The Guy Didn't Have a Label," the A&R man in a fleece vest with no label behind him; "School Board," the music teacher the county cut; "Cody" and "Cody (Again)," the Floyd County manager who bet on her bathroom EP and quietly deferred his pay; "She Left," the hardest song she ever wrote, about the mother who walked away; "The Offer," the real label deal she turned down to keep the county in the songs; and "What Permanent Feels Like," an honest account of learning to live after survival mode. For longtime fans, it's the most complete single-volume version of the story.
