The Echo Bureau

🕰️ The Echo Bureau — Berlin, 1983 → 2025 Born in a crumbling Kreuzberg apartment, The Echo Bureau spun tape loops, glitching synths, and cold, reverb-soaked guitars into coded messages from a divided city. Rumour had it they once leaked forbidden broadcasts under the codename “Echo Bureau.” Their music wasn’t rebellion — it was communication. Each song a secret signal. Each lyric, a message to someone who might never hear it. Live shows were ghostly: grainy Super 8 films, drifting numbers, silhouettes in shadow. Their names? Unknown. Only initials remained: • M. — voice & rhythm guitar, always in a black coat • K. — keys & programming, ex-Radio Free Europe • L. — bass & ambient guitars, the dreamer who wrote in code • D. — drums & electronic textures, the heartbeat behind the signal In 1985, they vanished. No goodbye. Just silence — until fate intervened. While mastering a solo album for Long Island Records in Stuttgart, Michael Behm stumbled upon a bargain-bin cassette with no label. On it, in German, was an audio introduction to the band — their story, their origin, their voice. He had it translated and archived it, where it sat… until 2025. Decades later, Michael embarked on a full restoration: cleaning the original recordings, researching rare photos and film footage, and reconstructing the visuals into new, haunting videos. Using AI to reimagine their sound and imagery, he brought the spectral frequencies of The Echo Bureau back to life. Their first single, Passenger Code, became an underground smash, followed by Forgotten Streets, and then Lost in the Handoff. The result: The Echo Bureau returns, bridging past and future, haunting the airwaves once more.
